United Way of Beaumont
Who
are we?
Each local United Way organization is separate and autonomous, governed by
local volunteers in the community where the funds are raised. Local United
Ways are NOT "chapters" of a larger organization. All decisions are made
locally by the
local elected board, for the local
community. Agency funding decisions are also made by local volunteers.
Funds raised by United Way of Beaumont are used to support the daily
operation of health and human service agencies
in Southeast Texas, serving the citizens of Southeast Texas.
If you have an interest in serving as a volunteer for United Way of
Beaumont & North Jefferson County, please call (409) 835-4575.
History
In 1925, a group of community leaders organized the Beaumont Community
Chest as a vehicle to help local citizens in need. The name was changed to
United Appeals in 1952, and in 1979, the organization became United Way of
Beaumont & North Jefferson County. Through the years, millions of your
neighbors have received help from the agencies funded by the annual
campaign. In 2006, United Way agencies served over 300,000 people.
Our local United Way has seen many changes, however, many things remain
the same...it is the people of the community who are the heart and soul of
the United Way. As a volunteer-based organization, local volunteers run
the organization, local volunteers raise and distribute the money. Our
funds come from donors who live and work in our community. These funds go
to agencies who help people in our community.
